Headaches Q & A

What are headaches?

Headaches are a common pain condition that cause discomfort in your head or face. Headache symptoms vary in type and severity. Your headache symptoms may indicate the type of headache you have.

In most people, headaches cause mild pain that resolves quickly with at-home care. However, headaches can be a chronic problem. If you’re searching for a non-drug treatment to get relief from your headaches, schedule an appointment at Excel Spine & Rehab.

What are the types of headaches?

There are many types of headaches. Each type has unique symptoms.

Tension headaches

Tension headaches are the most common type of headache. These types of headaches cause mild-to-moderate head pain, usually from muscle tension in your shoulders, upper back, or neck.

Migraine headaches

Migraine headaches cause an intense throbbing sensation in one area of your head that might last a few hours or a few days. Migraine headaches may cause other symptoms, such as sensitivity to light, nausea, or vomiting.

Cluster headaches

Cluster headaches cause severe stabbing or throbbing sensations behind or around one eye. These headaches tend to occur in clusters, causing pain sensations a few times a day for a few weeks or months.

New daily persistent headaches (NDPH)

NDPH are a type of headache that occurs without warning and causes daily head pain that lasts three or more months. Your daily pain may range from mild to severe.

Chronic daily headaches

Chronic daily headaches include any type of headache that causes head pain 15 days or more every month.
